The play takes us to the night of Sânziene, a time of mystery, when the usual order falls apart, and conventions give way to hidden desires. The destinies of Miss Iulia, the valet Jean and the cook Kristin intertwine in a dangerous game of passion, rise and fall, where attraction meets fatalism.
Director Dumitru Acriș chose to bring the characters into two temporal planes, confronting them with their own young and old versions. Thus, the show explores the impact of that night on their entire lives.
“Iulia, Jean and Kristin, having reached old age, look at themselves in the mirror of their own young versions and relive the boiling of that night when desire and fatality united to irremediably mark their existence.”
