Stage director Mihai Maniutiu: About the non-verbal theatre's temptation
I have not felt recently the need to produce entertainment theatre. Too much pathetic entertainment surrounds us, and I feel like a prisoner when I do concede into it, I feel like in a fair where I am confronted with all things I really hate. Therefore I returned to my own beginnings, when I kept hoping to produce an unrest theatre for the restless. A turbulent theatre. [...] It isn't a new way of doing theatre, but a very ancient one.
The Bacchae after Euripides, directed by Mihai Mãniuşiu is one of the most appreciated performances of “Tony Bulandra” Theatre. The show was highly appreciated by public and theatre critics as well, nationally and internationally. Bacchae was invited by the International Theatre Festival MOT in Skopje (Republic of Makedonia - 2005), The International Black Sea Theatre Festival in Trabzon (Turkey -2006, where it achieved the Best Performance Award), the Festival of international avant-garde theatre FIAT in Podgorica (Montenegro) and the Ex Ponto Festival in Ljubljana (Slovenia).
